G-Vegas Beware, Drunktards Are Coming

Tomorrow I hit the road early in order to meet up with my brother and quite a few blogtards in G-Vegas.   I have no set plans, no place to stay and, quite honestly, I'm not the least bit concerned.

One of the last times I was in G-Vegas I was found asleep on the hood of my buddies car at some time in the a.m.  With that in mind, as long as there is a warm engine under a car hood, I have a place to sleep.

I'm short on time, so I'll let an excerpt from one of Bad Blood's recent posts tell the rest of the story.  And for the record, I share his SteelFoot thoughts...

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Buying Vowels

I've said it many times. In fact, there's a chance I heard it from Otis first. Regardless, when you've reached the stage in life I have, you tend to focus more of your mental energy on the happiness of others. For me, as long as my wife and kids are happy and healthy, I can handle anything. All I ask, however, is just one small favor.

Give me Something To Look Forward To(tm)

As such, the above saying has morphed into an acronym - STLFT. Being the wordsmith that he is, Otis coined the aforementioned grouping of letters "SteelFoot."

This weekend is a SteelFoot. G-Rob is calling it Mastodon weekend. Whatever it is, it could get messy.

Stuff that may happen, people who might be here:

- Charlotte gang is coming. Falstaff, Special-K, Brian the Red
- Columbia folk is coming. Big Pirate
- Seattle folk is coming. Dr. Chako
- Dwarves are coming. Iggy
- Drunktards are coming. TripJax ;)
- Poor Otis Substitutes are coming. Dr. Jeff
- Poker Book Authors are coming. Lee Jones
- Thursday night poker crew may show up. Rocket, Backmeister
- Insane Canadians are coming. BamBam, Pebbles
- Fine dining will occur.
- Poker will be played.
- Drinks will be drunk.

- Oh yeah. The reason this is happening. AlCantHang and BoyGenius will be in town.

The Luck Factor

I came across this short article today...

http://tinyurl.com/298xf3

...about luck and found it rather interesting. It doesn't go into luck as it relates to poker or gambling; however, I think it could be a benefit to all my readers - degenerate gambooolers or not.

After giving it a quick read I tried to read it again, applying poker thoughts/scenarios/principles where possible. I came away with some pretty interesting thoughts that I will try to delve deeper into in a post soon..

As I searched online for a picture to go with my post I found the writer, Richard Wiseman, had actually written a book on the subject. I haven't read it, but I figured I would mention it in case anyone wants to check it out.

Dr. Chako's Life Lessons...

Weird...I was just talking with my buddy Alx last night about starting a series of posts on my blog with the theme being Life Lessons.  Then I'm reading my Google Reader today and come across Dr. Chako's post below.

That is much better/funnier than I could have posted.  Well done Young Chako #1...

Life Lessons - from an 11 year old

The Wife was going to blog this, but she's sleeping in order to be rested for skiing later today. I'll give it a shot.

Last night we were out at dinner, and the subject of reciprocity came up. We talked about doing something nice for someone while expecting something in return. I then asked son #1 the following question:

Dr. Chako: What do you call it when someone does something nice for someone and expects nothing in return?

Son #1: Is it... retarded?

Posterous FTW

As you can see from my Archives, I've been posting at TripJax via Blogger since 2004.  In the last couple of years my posts have declined, mainly because I made a decision to no longer post from work; that and a decrease in poker play, both live and online.  As for my posting from work, though I don't think it happens very often, Big Broseph can and will tap into my computer and review what I'm doing at any given time.  I don't need trouble with my employer - hell I'm just happy to have a damn job in this tough environment - so I've tried to make a conscious effort to limit my slackassery.

When I do have time to post, I'm sure my readers have noticed they are often short and sweet, rarely going beyond a couple of paragraphs,.  This is mainly due to the majority of my posts being written on my iPhone.  I don't know about you, but I've found it is tough to write a big honking post from a phone, even one with a great interface and large touch screen keyboard.  Unfortunately I haven't come across a really good iPhone application that answers many of the problems I have with posting to Blogger from an iPhone.  For the most part, it sucks.

Enter Posterous.

As I mentioned above, I've been blogging for some time; however, most of my close local friends have passed on the blogging gig.  Recently my buddy MTW put me onto Posterous.  He just wanted a forum that was easy for us to communicate in lieu of emailing back and forth constantly.  He also wanted something quick and easy that used email as the conduit - creation to submission.  Posterous did the trick.

So far I'm really loving Posterous.  You don't even have to sign-up to have a blog.  All you do is email post@posterous.com and it will create a blog for you and, whenever you send an email from the same email address, it will know to post to the same blog.  Of course you can create an account and have more control over the situation, but the start-up could not be easier.  When I post to my Posterous site, I can set it to automatically update my Blogger, Flickr and Twitter sites as well.  When I receive a comment on a post, I get an email that allows me to post a comment straight from the email.  No more fiddling online in order to reply to the comment.  Sweetness.

Also, Posterous blows Blogger out of the water with attachments.  It understands and controls attachments much better than any other blogger site I'm aware of, making them usable and useful within the post automatically.  See what I mean here.

So why the hell did I just write this post?  Well, I figured if I enjoy Posterous and can use it with Blogger, maybe others would benefit as well.  I also wanted anyone who reads my blog(s) to understand that sometimes I'll be cross posting on my Posterous and Blogger sites.  I have a feeling some of the things that work on Posterous might not always work on Blogger, so bear with me as I'm still figuring out how this whole thing works.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Good News For G-Vegas Crew

Just saw this while watching TV. Hopefully this will be good for the Greenville, SC G-Vegas crew as well as the rest of the nation.

Obviously the judge had never played at any games with Otis, BadBlood, G-Rob or any of the other SC folks before he came to this conclusion. Zing!

Scamford Financial ~ The Plot Sickens

If you've joined me for the last few posts...

http://tripjax.blogspot.com/2009/02/yowza.html

http://tripjax.blogspot.com/2009/02/scamford-financial.html

...then you can probably see I'm fascinated with the continued breaking news regarding Scamford Financial and the owner - and SOLE shareholder - Sir Allen Shamford.

The plot thickens today as the honorable Sir's whereabouts are unknown (if you click through the next link, watch the video).

Also, the SEC filing is available for all to read as well. You really, really should read this document to see just how a massive fraudulent activity is born and bred.

First Madoff and now this. I just wish I didn't have friends tangled up in this company. What a sad state of affairs.

Here is Shamford with some hotty wives of cricket players at a recent tournament. This ticked off more than a few players, so I heard.

Scamford Financial

If you had a chance to read my previous post and wanted to get a little background as to why Scamford Financial just got raided today, I'd suggest reading the following article. I found it fascinating before all this happened and, now that the fit has indeed hit the shan, it takes on a whole new magnitude.

Yowza!

A little over a year ago I was offered a job at a little-known, well- to-do financial services firm that has a local office in town. The company story is quite amazing and the offices are divine. It's a truly exciting story and I came within a witch's tit of making the move; however, I ultimately stayed where I've been the last 10 years.

Side note: I love misusing metaphors.

A few months ago an investment team left our firm to go to this company and they began to drop hints about my reconsidering the job offer as the position was still available.

I again decided not to pursue the opportunity. To say I am thankful for my decision is an understatement. Take a gander at this link.

For some, like Hoy http://hammerplayer.blogspot.com, it's about getting out of a bad situation before the fit hits the shan (Lehmen); for others, like myself in this case, it can be about never getting in in the first place. Counting my blessings right now.

What Would I Do...

Without The TAPROOM?

I know my readers are sick an tired of seeing pictures of what I
drink, but what're you gonna do? I have tomorrow off so I'm having a
beer to celebrate. Thanks all y'all President's.

I might actually play some [drunken] poker. I'll blog it if I do...

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

I Playh Pokah

Been playing poker for the last 2 hours and enjoying it - cash game even!

Made several folks angry along the way, including myself.

Also been live betting on bodog on the lakers game with mixed results.  Started at $150 bones, got down to $34, then finished with $164.  All I can say is go for professional basketball players hitting their next shot.  It's their fucking job.  I'm really digging live betting.

Well, peace be with me and...

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

thing. His beer is near the size of a wine bottle...and damn good!
It's the bottle on the right. Yiggidy yiggidty!

Damn You NFL Red Challenge Flag

I had some extra cash on BoDog and figured it was high time to make
some prop bets on the Bowl that is Super.

While I probably made over 10 different random bets, the one with the
best opportunity for me to make some cash was who would score the
first touchdown. We're not talking big money, but $10 to win $90 ain't
too shabby.

I was getting the odds due to my pick of Ben Roethlisberger. I just
had a hunch and went with it. Turns out my hunch was pretty good as
Ben took it in himself for the first touchdown of the game..

I of course had a big fat grin on my face, until I saw the little
fucking red challenge flag. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of
the challenge in general, just not when it costs me money.

As soon as I saw the flag fly, I knew my bet was toast. Alas I didn't
take it down on that drive, but I got another chance until their RB
ultimately took down the first TD.

Fuckers.

Still it was a pretty amazing game. I was rooting for AZ, but you
gotta earn it and that is what Pitt did.

Okay that is all...

Until next time, may the felt be with you.
