Forgive me Blogger, for I have shunned.
I have no excuses...well I have many...but none of my readers give a shite why I haven't posted. So I'll leave it at that and just throw up this quick post.
You might recall I was planning my 8 year wedding anniversary a few posts back. Well our anniversary is next Wednesday, October 3rd, but we are headed out on a vacation, sans chitterlings, to a cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We are stoked and leaving in about 10 minutes.
It wasn't that long ago I was writing about our previous anniversary...also a mountain trip. Good times and I'm looking forward to this trip too.
I won't be back in Blogger mode until at least next Tuesday. Promise you'll miss me?
A big happy birthday to Sir AlCantHang. It seems like only yesterday he was 39. If you can, join him and other degenerates in Kat's donkament tonight. I would love to be there, but obviously the trip I mentioned above has to take precedence. Below are the details. You wankers have fun in my absence...
Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Medicated To The One I Love
Thursday, September 20, 2007
It will indeed come as a suprise to many of my readers that I enjoy a frosty adult beverage every now and then *cough*. Well, replace now and then with every and day. No, I keed, I keed. I probably pop a few brews once during the week - usually while playing some online poker - and once or twice on the weekend depending on the activity at hand.
I know I'm not alone when I say sometimes the next morning is not exactly pretty. Take this morning as an example. I only had a six pack while playing The Mookie and other various pokery action, but I still felt fugly this morning for some reason. Side note, I made sure to drink 6 beers in honor of Mook's great news. Congrats yo and excellent banner.
As for the fuglyness, enter my Hangover Helper...
Alka-Seltzer Morning Relief AND Raspberry Emergen-C:
I'm not kidding when I say that combo absolutely kicks ask. Just get a small cup and drop the 2 Alka-Seltzer tablets in, then pour the Emergen-C powder in and add about 8 ounces of water. Give it a couple of minutes for the two powers to converge and then it's go time Jerry!
It takes virtually no time to start feeling better.
I should note, I take the Emergen-C packet everyday, regardless of hangover issues. I only include the Alka-Seltzer after a particularly rough night of drankin'. The Emergen-C is fortified with all kinds of good sheet, not the least of which is the 1000mg of Vitamin C!
So there's that.
I hope you all enjoyed my previous post, Poker Data Mining Collapse Leaves Little Hope For Thirteen. I do love The Onion and whenever I get some motivation, I try and toss out a tarded post in their honor. I actually got the idea for that post from one of their recent video podcasts.
If you've missed any of my old, "If I worked for The Onion" pieces, here are a couple of them in case you are bored with nothing else to do...

* The Truth About Lance Ass
I occasionally here some moaning and groaning about the difficulties of getting money onto online poker sites and, I gotta tell ya, it's just too easy. I had been meaning to add some money to BoDog in order to play in their weekly blogger tournament hosted by none other than schmokkee, but just hadn't gotten around to it. Finally on Tuesday I decided to try and toss $50 on there, my first deposit onto a poker site in ages, and it took me all of 1 minute. I was able to make the transfer from my bank debit card lickety split. Take that UIGEA. I have a bank account solely for pokery transactions that I keep seperate from the family finances and it was all too easy to make the transfer with no worries.
Granted I think people are less concerned about getting money onto sites as they are the difficulty of getting money OFF of poker sites. I'd be interested to know how difficult it is to get your money from BoDog. In the meantime, I plan to play the blogger tournament at BoDog indefinitely. You should too. Oh, I came in 2nd on Tuesday. I had 1st in my sites, but the heads-up battle versus Ingoal just didn't pan out. All goot.
By the way, the title to this post is the title to one of the songs from God Lives Underwater, one of my favorite bands I mentioned in my Top 25 post.
Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Poker Data Mining Collapse Leaves Little Hope For Thirteen
Monday, September 17, 2007
Greensboro, NC 2:41pm, Monday 17, September, 2007
Two Geek Squad representatives work feverishly to recover PokerTracker information lost after 13 online poker tables - data-mining for 60 consecutive hours - suddenly collapsed underneath an apparent information overload.
In what is being described as, "an unfortunate, but avoidable mishap," by roommates and friends, a local college student is coping with the potential irrecoverable loss of thousands upon thousands of online poker hand histories. Preferring to go by his online poker screen name, AAvaglikAA, the area college student said he believed the Geek Squad reps were doing there best to save his data.
"I just can't believe all that hard work might be gone. I had been multi-tabling 3 tables when my buddy, KracKnKK, pinged me in the Instant Message box and told me I could just open up more tables and it would keep track of the other players without even playing at the table. I was totally stoked and fired up 10 more tables."
Initial reports suggested AAvaglikAA had only the 13 online poker tables running, constantly collecting poker hand history data, however the first Geek Squad representative on the scene, Jon Ricket, raised the possibility that the harddrive collapse may have been caused by an array of questionable activity.
"We're pretty sure there is a pornographic DVD stuck in the drive, not to mention a trail of porn and chat room sites that were open at the time of the collapse. There's also some disturbing web cam pics my co-worker, Thomas, has already retrieved from the recoverable files."
Recalling the moment the collapse began, AAvaglikAA added: "When things started going haywire and the tables were dropping left and right, I knew I had to write a note before hope faded. I managed to type, 'tell MommaQQ I love her,' in the chat box of the last poker table open before things completely blacked out."

Pwned
Friday, September 14, 2007
Well, well, Friday has snuck up on thine ass and smitten me in the process. Weeks are beginning to blur as work flails me to and fro like a strap-on dildo on a cracked up prostitute. So there's that.
How about this for getting waxed last night at the tables...
Yeah, that's an Uber Royal Flush. Could I get anymore Pwned? (click on that link and tell me that is not Wawfuls...).
I may never get ass smacked like that again in my poker career. That was a pre-flop all-in in a heads-up session where I was playing uber-aggro and someone finally hoisted their cajones and met me in the middle. I totally fucking had him until that river beat.
*Cough*
I have a beer fairy. You all wish you had a beer fairy, but I actually have one. I have a 2nd fridge outside in my storage room. It's basically the beer and liquor fridge. I also happen to have a brother-in-law who is a supervisor at Anheuser-Busch and lives across the street from me. Lets just say when a beer nears its "Born On Freshness Date," I'm the recipient of said beer...deposited into my 2nd fridge. I gotz no problems with pounding a beer that was "born" 3 months ago. Thanks bro.
Apparently this is random ass story day, so lets end this post all proper like...with a random ass story.
ChickJax and I are about to celebrate our 8 year anniversary. Everytime our anniversary nears I think about her grandparents and when they were married. The story goes...
The wedding went off without a hitch. The newleyweds headed to their car and off to their honeymoon. As they sped off towards their destination, the groom realized his friends had added the classic wedding addition to the car...the cans on a string. Yep, cans were strewn all over the car...from the back to the front to the sides...dragging all over the place.
As "grandpa" pondered what to do (he was probably 20 at the time, so no grandpa), he decided to open the door and lean back to grab one of the cans that was bouncing around the back door. Obviously not the smartest thing in the world to do, but he did it. Unfortunately he made the move not realizing they were about to cross a bridge.
His car door slammed into the side of the bridge and, I don't really have to tell you what happened next, but I will. The door basically crushed him. The newleyweds spent the next 6 months in a hospital in recovery as he...well...recovered.Obviously they made it out okay since ChickJax is sitting here next to me doing just fine. They went on to spawn 6 chitterlings, who spawned many more chitterlings...and I happened to luck into marrying one of them. A smokin' hot one too. Happy early 8 year anniversary ChickJax!
So there you have it.
Until next time, may the felt be with you.
Update, 9:09am, 09/14/07: Thanks for the well wishes in the comments on the anniversary. I may have confused the situation a tad bit. Our anniversary isn't until October 3rd...I just had it on the brain yesterday as I was scheduling our trip to the mountains in a couple of weeks as a celebration. So, of course, I'll be dropping another anniversary post again in about a month, but thanks for the comments folks!

Pressure Poker
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
In my previous post, "Top 25," I mentioned how much I love coming across an old cd and giving it a spin again. It's a good feeling when you find an album you used to listen to all the time and can still easily remember the lyrics when you fire up the 1st track.
After writing that post, I started thinking about some of the books I've read in the past and really wanted to read again. Of course, as is usual, I thought about the poker books I have around the house collecting dust. I've read them all, but sometimes it helps to give them another read with a fresh perspective.
A few months back I was looking for the book DoubleAs wrote, Pressure Poker, that I purchased when it first came out. I remember the excitement I had when it arrived and the joy I took from reading a book written by a fellow blogger. I also remember finishing it and immediately saying to myself, "I'm going to want to read this one again someday." I never found the book and was disappointed as I figured I had lost it somewhere along the way.
This weekend as I was watching football, something caught my eye on top of our TV stand. Our TV stand is more of a utility rack than a TV stand, but it works well for our living room and our audio/video equipment (for a better picture of a rack, check here). The only problem is since it is made of metal wire, it is difficult to put any picture frames on top of it. If you haven't noticed, we are a picture taking family so we have frames everywhere. A solution to our inability to put picture frames on top of the TV stand was to stack books horizontally on top of the stand.
Well wouldn't you know it, one of the books we were using for our picture frames was Pressure Poker. I immediately let ChickJax know I had been looking for that book and promptly took it down for a quick perusal. I opened it up to a random page and this is the 1st thing I read...
The Hold'em Probability Loop
An Interesting phenomenon in Hold'em is that AK is a favorite over JT suited, which is a favorite over 22, which is a favorite over AK.
I know it is simple, but I just love that little nugget of info.
Here's the bottomline and the reason for this post. I'm now in the process of re-reading Pressure Poker and I implore anyone out there who has an interest in poker to go give this one a read. If you are a poker blogger, you should definitely have this one on your bookshelf. There will be plenty in it that you already know, just from being a poker blogger, but it is still a great read.
More importantly for me, having already read the book once, I know exactly what I will use the book for once I finish reading it again. Anytime someone who doesn't play poker finds out that I'm a poker player, they always seem to ask the same questions like, "What's it like to play poker online?," or "Is it legit?". Well, now I will give them my 2 cents, but I'll also offer to let them borrow, Pressure Poker, THE poker book that explains poker, online poker and poker blogging best. From managing your bankroll, to online poker site reviews, to hosting your own home game, this book has it all.
Please note, this was not a sponsored ad and the link to the book is not for my benefit. I got the link straight from Scott's blog, DoubleAs.
Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Top 25

I'm pretty far behind on my meme's, but hopefully I can knock a few out here in the near future. I definitely want to do the 20 Tracks meme by Boy Genius when I get a chance, but that one will take a little more time than I have at the moment. In the meantime, I'll just answer a question that Kaja asked recently in one of his recent posts. Specifically, he asked, "What music do you listen to (if you do) when playing poker online or live and why?
To be extremely vague, I listen to almost anything. I tend to lean towards Alternative just because that keeps me pumped up the most, but in a pinch I'll listen to almost anything.
To be more specific, let me just show you my current Top 25 below. I really only listen to iTunes when playing poker, so this is a good idea of what has been of interest to me lately. I listen to a lot more random stuff when listening to my iPod in the car or on the go, but for some reason, when I sit down to play poker, I just tend to bring up My Favorites or My Top 25 playlists and start listening.
So here is my Top 25 of late, in no particular order...
So there you have it. That's what I'm listening to these days, but the list tends to change every few months as I grow in and out of certain bands and songs. I tend to play a song or album I really like into the ground, toss it in the pile, then whip it back out ages later. It is awesome to truly love an album, not listen to it in what feels like forever, then take it all-in again at some point down the road.
Before I go, allow me to leave you with some links to bands from my above picture as well as one of the best album covers of all time.
The Mars Volta - Intertiatic E.S.P. Holy shit these guys pwn. They are great to listen to while playing online poker as you will just get lost in their albums. So much power packed in one band.
The Cooper Temple Clause - Blind Pilots Never seen that video until today...pretty weird ass ending. The band is no more and I just came upon this album this year, so I'm bummed I'll probably never see them live.
God Lives Underwater - From Your Mouth One of my favorite bands and videos of all time. Another great listen while playing online poker.
The Black Angels - Black Grease You really gotta get their latest album to truly soak this band in. Awesome stuff.
Muse - Super Massive Blackhole Actually these guys aren't in my Top 25, but are constantly in my rotation on the iPod. This is the new video and I'm really digging the new album. Another good song from the new album.
Interpol - Slow Hands Another band completely stuck in my rotation when listening to my iPod, but not in my Top 25 when listening to poker. They should be though. This is a kick ass band that I originally thought was British, but I'm pretty sure they are New Yorkers.
Ween - The Mollusk They didn't make this video, but I guarantee they like whoever took the time to make it specifically for this song. Ween is one of the strangest and ecclectic bands you will ever hear. When you get a new album from them, you truly never know what you are about to get. It's good stuff though.
Ween - Freedom of '76 This video is way back from 1993 on some random as talk show. I can't believe I just typed way back in 1993. That's the year I graduated high school. If you've never heard Ween before, go ahead and start with Chocolate & Cheese. It is a classic and is one of my top 5. Plus the album cover is nice (most definitely click through to embiggen).
Let me finish off this post by answering one last question...do I listen to music when playing poker live?
I don't listen to music when playing poker. I play poker when playing poker live!
On a side note, man my 80g iPod, which is only a few months old, suddenly seems lacking.
Not to start another friggin' meme, but what's your Top 25?
Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Pwner Of A Lonely Blog
Thursday, September 06, 2007
Last Friday I wrote that I would discuss further the idea of "cashless" poker games to avoid the growing concerns both The House and Players have in regards to underground poker rooms being busted or robbed. I've been writing that post for a number of days now, but I'm just not ready to post it yet. Hopefully soon.
In the meantime, I just realized I haven't posted since this past weekend. Things have been a tad hectic lately and, though I think about poker all the time, I've had to brush it off lately. Don't worry mistress poker, I still gotz love for ya.
I will say this though...things are great in my world right now. My family kicks ask. Work is going well and keeping me busy in a good way. The Cubs are in 1st place in the NL Central and making a run for the playoffs. NFL starts tonight! I still feel great about my poker game (though I'm not playing as much lately). Blogdamn these are great times!
So anyways, my apologies for no love in the blog this week, but I'll hopefully be back in action on a daily basis soon. In the meantime, enjoy these posts I recently read that I felt should be shared, just in case you missed them. I'll try and update my shared site often and link to it when I do.

Taking Shots
Saturday, September 01, 2007
Last night I decided to practice up on my heads-up game in prep for my 1st round match against Simon in the Heads Up Challenge V (HUC5). We've been trying to find a good time to play this week, but we've been unable to so far. Hopefully we'll get to it soon. I got a wild hair up my ass and decided to play some larger buy-in games. I normally play between $10 and $30 buy-ins, but was just in the mood to take some shots.
I ended up 50/50 for the session, winning 6 of my 12 matches. I still managed to have a nice winning session since I did well in the largest buy-in matches. Of the five $200 buy-in matches, I won 4 of them (the wins are in green)...
Looking back on the session, the $11 match seems rather silly, but I had been having connection problems with PokerStars much of the night and decided I needed a break from their site. I don't have as much scratch on Full Tilt right now after cashing out for vacation, so I decided to keep that game low.
My hourly rate for the session was something like $120/hr. Fushizzle.
Until next time, may the felt be with you
