Poker Sites Take Notice: 180 Player 6-Max Shootouts

Howz about we try another Poker Sites Take Notice (PSTN). If you have not been joining me along the way, this is my attempt to offer up some game ideas that might work well for poker sites and their clientele. For the most part I just think of games I would personally like to play and then run with it. Many times I am just playing off of ideas already in motion, but with a few changes or updates. For the list of previous ideas see my links in the sidebar. Also, if anything I mention is already in play at a site please let me know so I do not look like a complete moron (too late!).

On the last installment of PSTN, my idea drew some criticism based on a few flaws. Most of the critics believed it was more of a crapshoot than a poker game. And in hindsight I would have to partially agree. Playing one $10 SNG with the potential for a huge payout is great in theory, but the meat and potatoes of the idea still needs to be hashed out. At some point I will re-address that particular idea, but in the meantime I wanted to drop this one on you all.

This theme does not introduce any ground breaking monumental ideas, but it plays off of games already currently in play. As you will see, I am still not past my fascination of Shootout Tournaments as this is along those lines. The concept is a 180 Player 6-Max Shootout made available Sit-N-Go style (once registration is full start the Shootout and open up another Shootout Tournament for registration). I have not detailed any blind structure, but for this particular example I am using a $10 + $1 buy-in (though the actual buy-in and payout can be adjusted to fit demand). Below is an example of what I am thinking:

Pros:

You break even or make money by outlasting just 4 players in Round 1. From there on any money you make is gravy.

Even though there are 180 players, you will never play against more than 5 other players at a time and you will only have to outlast 11 total other players to make it to the final table. If you make it to the final table the minimum you will win is $65 and the maximum you can win is $352. These figures total the payouts for each round and do not include the cost of the buy-in.

In Round 1 and 2 you only have to outlast 4 other players to advance. In round 3 you only have to outlast 3 other players to advance to the final table where all 6 players receive a final payout!

Cons:

In a 6-Max $10 SNG you will typically make $42 for 1st place and $18 for 2nd place, but in the shootout you will only breakeven or make a few dollars by placing top 2. However, you will not get the chance to play for a $350+ final payout in a typical 6-Max SNG.

So there you have it. Let me know your thoughts if you have any. Have fun in Vegas all!
