The Onion Needs New Material...Or My Services. Read On...

There's no denying I dig The Onion.  They make me laugh and, several times in the past, I've written posts as if I was a writer for them.  I enjoyed it and I hope I made 1 or 2 people laugh.  In the end I did it because I have a blog and...well...I can (rip brandi).

All that said, I now have to laugh when I wrote this in May 2008...

LPGA Commissioner Euthanizes Annika Sorenstam

And they just pumped this out in June 2009...

Gymnast Shawn Johnson Put To Sleep After Breaking Leg

If I find out Julius Goat,  is the editor for The Onion, there's gonna be some splainin' to do.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Bodog 2009 Mini Series Coming July 3rd

The poker world is in a frenzy with the 2009 WSOP recently hitting the halfway point.  For those unable to make it to Vegas, but still looking for some poker action, I'm happy to report some pretty cool opportunities coming courtesy of Bodog.

For starters, Bodog is again making good for the poker bloggers out there with the Bodog 2009 Mini Series, starting Friday, July 3rd.  Be sure to keep up with the action and full details over at Smokkee's site.  His latest post offers more details, but I'll go ahead and give you the mini scoop...

The top 9 leader board finishers receive:

  • 1st place: A 2010 WSOP Main Event seat and a 2010 Team Bodog membership (valued at $12,000).
  • 2nd and 3rd place: A Bodog Poker Open IV Prize Package (or a buy-in to all BPOIV events to be hosted in the fall of 2009).
  • 4th and 5th place: A Bodog Flight Club Semifinal seat (valued at $270).
  • 6th thru 9th place: A seat to a Sunday $100,000 Guaranteed Tournament (valued at $109).
I'm hoping to play all of the 13 qualifying events and, if things go well, the semifinal and final as well.  I hope you'll join me along the way.  With 13 events over 13 days and a total of 15 events over 21 days, it is sure to be a crazy time.  Of course you don't have to play them all, but the more you play, the better chance for pay!

Also, If you are looking for action above and beyond the Mini Series, don't forget about the 2009 WSOP Main Event props and odds available at the Bodog Sportsbook.  I'm thinking about putting a little bit of coin down on a bet or two, but I haven't decided what I want to do yet.  I've really enjoyed the times I've put action down in their sportsbook and I've actually run pretty goot overall.

So there you have it.  Again, be sure to visit Smokkee early and often if you have any questions or comments regarding the series.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Wisdumb by TripJax

Today's lesson learned involves...wait for it...wait for it...poker!  How about that?!

This one is simple and if you've played online poker enough, you've probably been there.

Buying into a tournament when you know you don't have time due to prior obligations.

Maybe you have enough time to make it halfway through or even into the money, but ultimately you know you have to go well before the final table or 1st place.

Well here is my shocking words of wisdumb...

DON'T BUY-IN TO THE TOURNAMENT YOU TERARD!

If you are not in it to take it down, you shouldn't be in it at all.

You will either fonk it all away, realizing you wasted your money, or get a nice stack and lament your chances when you have to leave, again wasting your money.

So save your money and do something else before you have to go do whatever it is you do when you do that thing you have to do.  Yeah, I'm not gonna re-write that last sentence, even though I should.

In the past I've bought into tournaments KNOWING I couldn't stay the whole time and I always felt like an idiot when I was walking out the door.

So take it from me and stay away if you don't have time to play.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Fon-Do or Fon-Don't?

Fun times were had during birthday dinner #2 for SupaNats. We were a tad worried about an 8 and 4 year old at a quiet fondue restaurant, but they were behaved and, surprisingly, ate very well. Knowing the melted chocolate was the finale helped the cause. Now for the pictures...all that food on the table and they are scarfing down lemons...

In Richmond, VA With My By Myself.

I'm working the next 3 days in downtown Richmond. The street I'm on is old style brick and I'm digging it. Looking forward to checking out the brewery next to the hotel sometime before I leave. I'll post a picture when I go. That is all.

Should I Respond To This New York Post Inquiry Or Not?

For those that don't know, I use Posterous for most of my TripJax (Blogger) posting.  It is the easiest way I've found to post to my poker blog from anywhere, anytime (including my iPhone).  That said, the main reason I use it is I can also post to other social networking sites at the same time.  If I want to post a quick note on my twitter and/or facebook account, I can do it.  If I only want to post to my TripJax blog I can do it.  If I only want to post to my Posterous blog, where the bulk (read: 4 that probably know about it) of my non-pokery friends can catch up with me,  I can do it.  Basically I can post to one, several or all of my sites in one quick email...the choices are pretty much mine.

I mention this for those of you who normally read me at my poker blog and won't recognize the upcoming link.  Back when I posted my WTFawk post about my poker mobneys being frozen here...

http://tripjax.blogspot.com/2009/06/wtfawk.html

It also posted at my Posterous site here...

http://tripjax.posterous.com/wtfawk

Now you would think if I were to receive a comment about poker it would come on my actual poker blog, but instead I received the following comment at my Posterous site:

Jeremy Olshan said...
I am a reporter with the NY Post and I am looking to interview players who can't access their winnings. My email is jolshan@nypost.com

So here is my question.  Should I respond to him or let this go?  I've left it alone up to now as I don't really want to go there, but this is apparently becoming pretty big news.  I wasn't sure if I could voice my opinion and it be taken the right way.  I don't want to be thrown to the wolves when the New York Post puts up some anti-online poker article and my words get distorted.  The media can do that ya know.

So anyway, just looking for your thoughts...

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

Nick Geber is my BFF

I saw this on POKERATI and just had to laugh.  I dig Nick Geber's commentary in general and just the fact he was having some fun during a testing session is good stuff.  Hopefully no one took too much offense to it, but I enjoyed it.  It just so happens I've been spending several of the past few nights watching the Bluff live video feed onrine and happened to catch his commentary.  I like the guy so far and this video just solidifies the fact that people are people.  Lighten up folks.

Until next time, may the felt be with you.

WTFawk?

Check out the below emails I received recently after trying to withdraw and get ready for the WSOP.  It's not like it is a ton of money, but damn.  At least Full Tilt fronted $100 for the headache, but what the hell is going on??!!  For the record, both checks looked like they came from the same payment processor.  What gives...

POKERSTARS

Dear TripJax,

We were recently informed by one of our check providers that their bank
account has been frozen.  As a result, the following check cannot be
cashed or deposited at this time:

Transaction ID: XXXXXXXX
Amount: "$1,515.00"
Mailed date: "May27, 2009"

We are in communication with the provider to establish the exact
circumstances, and find an immediate solution.  We appreciate your
patience in the meantime and will provide a further update by end of day
Monday.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for any disruption this has caused
you.

Best Regards,

Six hours of interviews for a new position within the firm begin in just a few minutes. Wish me luck!

I made it into Miami-Dade, FL last night with no incidents. As I posted earlier on my Facebook, no sign of Horatio "H" Caine up to this point (a little CSI Miami humor for those that watch the show). I'll keep my eye out for a red head dude with sunglasses and a badge who is dropping one-liners like it's his business.

I'm getting ready to go into 5 seperate interviews over a 6 hour span, so I expect today to be quite brutal. The good thing is I still have my existing job, even if I don't get offered the position; however, I am very interested in the potential with this promotion.

I'll leave you with a pic I took coming into Florida. I swear it looks like some of those little spots could just drop right into the ocean. Weird seeing land from such great heights.
